I did this the other night, Chris Goode‘s chat/conversation/event, which is then made available as a podcast.
It was a lovely discussion between myself, Chris, Alison Blunt, CJ Mitchell and an audience, which began over dinner, moved to the space, and continued in the ether. And now you can hear (some of) it.
Given much of our chat was about the nature of live work, of process, of how we (I, certainly) am coming to a stage where I want to share my process as much as my ‘product’, where I am beginning to wonder if perhaps my process might somehow BE my product, you’ll appreciate the irony that not all the podcast is available to listen to.
Chris introduces the discussion, and the ‘mishap’ (aka vital accident) that occurred.
As my Buddhist practice says, “enjoy what there is to enjoy”.
sort of about everything, sort of about theatre
“Coming to a stage where I want to share my process as much as my ‘product’”: would like to hear more about this!

Me too! I’m seriously working out what that means though. Invite the audience to rehearsal? Find a way to write a book live? Serious question. I’m interested …

Am publishing a book in Feb in which we asked poets and fiction writers to write literary works and then write pieces reflecting on how they wrote them. Like the outcome – find it an attractive form. Also, wondering whether you’d ever want to write something in the how-to line?

Nice idea.
And yes, I would want to write a how-to, I do want to, but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and I need to work out the type of ‘how-to’ I want to do. The crossover between my theatre and my writing work means a trad How to Write wouldn’t do it for me. I’m getting there …

Hi Stella Very interested in what you say about process. We’ve just taken over an empty shop and are making all of our rehearsals/processes open to the public – they watch through the window, and sometimes pop in. It’s interesting, some aspects of the process mind their own business and some are kind of amplified, I’m loving the spontaneity of it.
