Dear Stella,
I loved meeting you at Brixton library and enjoyed our (brief!) chat.
It was an honour to make your book cake (thank’s to Tim).
I am sorry to have missed you recieving it, as I was doing battle with the local traffic wardens!!
I wish you every success with Theodara, I have just begun reading:)
All the best

It was a great pleasure to hear you talk about Theodora at Brixton library last week and an even greater pleasure (and privilege – given its not officially published until next week) to have already finished reading Theodora. As you can probably tell from how fast I read it that I adored it. You bring a figure from fairly remote (and obscure) history to life and as with all great historic fiction make her relevant to our times. As you clearly state in your acknowledgements you’re not a historian and its just a story. But its not just a story (and in the hands of a fantastic story teller like yourself its a wonderful story) but there’s enough history in there for me to have learned a great deal and to want to find out more. Thank you!
thank you so much for saying so! even this (very) early on in the process, the book is out there and I’m hungry to know who it’s doing – and what it’s doing – for readers. am delighted you enjoyed it that much and really grateful you stopped by to tell me! x
